Chris Reid, MASc

Director

With more than 25 years of experience developing energy and hardware technology ventures, Chris Reid is a seasoned entrepreneur and leader in the sector.

 

Among his earliest achievements was the co-founding of Cellex Power in 1998.  As CEO, his vision for helped pioneer the introduction of fuel cell products into the material handling industry, now the largest global market for fuel cells and hydrogen.

 

With Cellex’s acquisition by Plug Power in 2007, Chris continued as General Manager of its motive power division.

 

In 2016, he co-founded and became Managing Director of Innovative Breakthrough Energy Technologies (IBET) Ltd., a high-impact climate company creator.  IBET spun out Ekona Power Inc. in 2017, a Burnaby-based cleantech start-up with a mission to decarbonize hydrogen production for industry, transportation and emerging clean energy markets.

 

As Ekona’s CEO, Chris is committed to creating a significant and positive impact in a world trying to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

 

He is equally committed to giving back to the energy technology community.  He has coached and lead a variety of early-stage ventures across British Columbia as a board member or director. Presently, he works with Foresight Cleantech Accelerator as an Executive-in-Residence.

 

Chris holds a Master of Applied Science from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Manitoba with a focus on mechanical engineering.

 

When not pursuing his passion for innovation and venture development, you will find Chris on local ski hills or riding his bike around town.
